Joel Shields shoots 63 in Championships
Official Course Record
Sunday 6th March 2016 :-
Joel Shields made history again today with an imposing 63 in the second round of the club championships.  Having shot 60 less than a month ago Joel now holds both the official and unofficial course records for the Young Golf Club. For the round to be recognised as an official record, it must be shot in an individual stroke event as well as from the back tees and without any preferred lies.  This usually limits such rounds to Monthly Medal events and the Club Championships.  Congratulations Joel on another feather in your cap.

Joel Shields shoots magic score of 60
Unofficial Course Record
Wednesday 10th February 2016 :-
Joel Shields made history today with an outstanding score of 60 off the stick, a full TEN UNDER PAR.  Playing off a handicap of +2, Joel recorded eight birdies and one eagle in his round.
His scratch scores read 3,4,3,4,3,4,3,3,3 (out in 30) then 4,4,4,3,3,3,3,3,3 (in with 30) for a scratch score of 60. This gave Joel a score of 3 on an amazing 12 out of the 18 holes (six on each side).
Not bad at all on a course with only 4 par three holes.
Only six players in PGA Tour history have ever recorded lower scores on the U.S. PGA Tour.

James French & Christabel Stolhand win SWDGA Mixed Foursomes 5 out of 6 years
Sunday 20th July 2014 :-
James French & Christabel Stolhand regained the SWDGA Mixed Foursomes title today having relinquished it last year for the first time this decade.

Christabel & James have almost owned this event of late until a surprise defeat last year at the hands of Keith Dehnert & Helen Pearce from Tumut.  Not to be deterred they fought back this year with a resounding 5 shot victory over their nemesis of last year. Their winning score was 78 and gave them a clear 5 shot margin.

Rick Oliver Wins Royal Melbourne Seniors
Wednesday 23rd January 2013 :- Rick Oliver has claimed victory in the inaugural Royal Melbourne Seniors Classic with a three round total of 238 around the challenging Royal Melbourne layouts. Rick secured his win after a playoff against Denis Dale when he parred the difficult 18th hole, by getting up and down from the sand after his opponent had failed to secure his par. The event was played over three rounds, one each at the Royal Mebourne East Course, West Course, and Composite Course.

Joel Shields runs 6th in State Age Championships:-
July 2011 :-  Joel Shields has just completed a wonderful showing in the Sate Age Championships in Sydney. In Joel's age division he came a credible 6th, however his cause was not helped with a 10 on the 7th hole at the Australian Golf Club.  Unperturbed Joel followed up the difficult stretch of holes on 7, 8, 9, and 10 with a HOLE IN ONE on the 11th hole.  Congratulations Joel on a wonderful effort.

Rick Oliver Runner Up in Australian Seniors
Thursday 5th May 2011 :- Rick Oliver has proven his credentials again with an impressive 2nd place finish in the Australian Mens Senior Amateur Championships this week held at the Tanunda Pines Golf Club in the Barossa Valley.  Rick shots rounds of 75, 76, and 76 to finish 5 adrift of the winner Stefan Albinski and 3 clear of 3rd place Denis Dale.  Rick previously won this event in 2007 and continues to shine with his fine vein of form in recent years.

Joel Shields almost qualifies for NSW Amateur at the age of only 15 years
January 2011 :-  Joel Shields attempted to qualify for the NSW amateur event fell just short of a miraculous conclusion.  Playing in Sydney as one of the very youngest competitors against seasoned amateur champions from around the state and around the world, Joel shot rounds of 3 over par around Cumberland Golf Course and 2 over par around Liverpool Golf Course to narrowly miss the cut by only 2 shots.

This event attracts the very best players with the top 32 qualifying for the matchplay championship.  With a field well in excess of 200 players, and a maximum handicap requirement of only 4 handicap, Joel's effort to be so highly placed is an outsatnding achievement for any golfer, much less a young man who is just entering year 10 at school this year.  Congratulations Joel on a wonderful effort.

Rick Oliver Selected to Play for Australia
Friday 8th October 2010 :- Rick Oliver has been chosen to represent Australia in the Australian Senior Team to play in Thailand in an international teams event later this year.  Rick had also previously been chosen to represent Australia in 2008.

Rick Oliver wins The National Senior Masters
Friday 21st May 2010 :- Rick Oliver has just won the inaugural National Senior Masters event held at The National Golf Club in Victoria.  Rick shot rounds of 76-78-72 in finishing tied with his close friend Ross Percy from Victoria, but was awarded the title on a count back. This is the first ever running of this event so Rick is the first player to don the winners Green Jacket.

NSW Sandgreen Champions
Sunday 18th April 2010 :-  Congratulations to Grant Harding and Graeme Cheshire on winning the NSW Sandgreen 4 Ball Championships at Coolamon.  Grant and Graeme were neck and neck with a team from Wagga, with both teams shooting 2 rounds of 3 under par to remain tied after 36 holes. Graeme made a clutch 12 foot putt for birdie at the first playoff hole to once again tie up the scores. However a solitary birdie at the 2nd play off hole (the 18th hole) by Grant was enough for them to secure their first win in this event.

HOLE IN 1 BRADY LESTRANGE
Thursday 11th December 2008 :-  Playing in the Daylight Saving Competition, 10 year old Brady LeStrange had a hole in one on the 178 metre par 3 16th hole. Congratulations Brady - great shot.

Is this possibly the youngest player to hole in one in a senior competition at the Young Golf Club?

AMAZING RECORD FOR HELEN SPENCER.
Congratulations to Helen Spencer who won her 32nd straight Regional Championships on Saturday 9th October 2010 at the Gundagai Golf Club.  Yes, that's right, 32 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A ROW.
For most people, to win even one Regional Championship is a major accomplishment, but to be unbeaten in the whole region for 32 years is just astonishing.

This event is held once a year throughout different clubs in the South West. Helen clearly won this years event from runner-up Janette Elliott who plays out of the Harden Country Club.

This is an outstanding achievement as Helen has had to take on all comers on all courses over a very long period of time to reach this lofty position.

To put it into perspective; the last time anyone else won a South West singles title for ladies was in 1978.  No other player has their name on the trophy for the whole of the 80's 90's and 00's

SENSATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT BY RICK OLIVER
.

Congratulations to our Club Captain, Rick Oliver, who on Friday 10th October 2008 finished runner up to Denis Dale in the final of the Australian Seniors Matchplay Championships at Barwon Heads.

Rick had qualified as number one for this event by being the winner of the Australian Seniors Order of Merit, and had won his way through to the final with convincing victories in all his preliminary rounds.

In the final, Rick faced off against the number two qualifier, Denis Dale, with whom he had also tied in winning the 2007 Australian Seniors Championships, played at the Commonwealth Golf Club.

Unfortunately Rick went down to a red hot Dale in the final, but should still be applauded for his tremendous result. An Australian Championship title in 2007, and a runner up finish in an Australian Matchplay Championship in 2008 is a great effort.

Rick has also been selected in the Australian Senior Team to play in South East Asia in November and will have the honour of being Captain of the side.  Undoubtedly, this is a huge achievement, to represent as Captain of your country; an honour that is bestowed on very few people.
